Meet Miss Sarah
I fell in love with teaching when I got my first job working at a summer preschool art camp when I was 15 and I’ve been doing it ever since! I went on to get a master’s in education (curriculum and instruction) and have had so many fun jobs working with kids. Here are some highlights:
lead preschool teacher with a classroom of 24!
elementary after-school program teacher/supervisor
specialized tutoring for low-income elementary students to help them catch up to grade level
teaching oral health to children and parents dressed as the unofficial tooth fairy
overnight education programs at the zoo and aquarium (we got to sleep outside the glass in the shark exhibit!)
outdoor educator for elementary field trips
national parks hiking guide (working with kids of all ages)
nanny to many wonderful families of young children
homeschool tutor
summer camp supervisor
As you can see, I had a blast trying everything under the sun to make learning better and more exciting for kids!
Something that was always missing for me though were the other parts of child development- the social and emotional education, the parts where we teach children that there’s more to a good life than just academics. That it’s just as important, if not more so, to teach kids how to take care of their physical and mental health, to build a strong foundation of trust and respect within their circle of people, to practice self-control and kindness, and all the other things that contribute to a healthy and happy life.
I found my niche within early childhood because there’s just so much growth that’s happening at this stage, it feels like every day is a new and exciting challenge to figure out how best to support kids and help them be their best selves.
And while this challenge is what I live for, I know for some parents, the challenge can be heavy on the struggle and light on the fun.
So I decided to create this little corner of the internet to share everything I’ve learned in the last 20 years with parents so they can flip that script. No more dinner or bed-time battles, no more boring activities in a desperate attempt to keep them entertained, just structured, easy-to-follow, and FUN resources to make sure that your young kids get EVERYTHING they need to thrive while making it fun and easy for you.
You know that joke about how we wish kids came with an instruction manual? Well, this is my attempt at it :) I hope you find something here that makes your job of raising your kids a little better, a little easier, and a lot more fun. Because they’re only young once, right? So let’s make the most of it!
Warmly, Miss Sarah :)
